You can edit the formations in Fear.

If you have warriors fighting thralls, it's better to have the warriors fighting 1v1 against each thrall instead of 2 warriors against 1 thrall with another 1 thrall hacking at a warrior, as warriors can only block against a strike when fighting the particular unit.

I wouldn't do that SCS unless the guy with thrall is known to be a very good. Because thrall are so slow that its hard to get them all into the fight quickly, fighting them 1v1 in this case just helps them

SCS is the abbreviation of the full version of Sharp (eddaweaver)'s name: SharpCutting sword.

Quiz at 8 AM tomorrow on alternate fake Myth names and logins.

Edit Reason: mentioned the upcoming quiz. Very important.

M2 melee is pretty straight forward most of the time... Hold Shift and double click your opponents closest, most isolated unit and then go back to your arty.

Clump as tight as you can as late as you can (IE dont just leave your units clumped running into the fight, you'll get pussed or nailed by their arty). Sharp alluded to some of the more subtle tactics but I agree with DP that most of the time doing anything other than clumping tightly is just a waste of click time.

TFL melee on the other hand... well.. novels could be written.

#.------------units/line---spacing
1:------------6------------2.000
2:------------8------------2.750
3:------------8------------3.334
4:------------6------------0.525
5:------------n/a----------0.525

Encirclements: (#'s 7 & 8)
radius: -24 (no clue what this number does)
seperation: 1.100
shallow arc length: 16
deep arc length: 85

[1] i use for protecting arty with melee, mainly on dark maps.
[2] is my main formation for archers and often melee.
[3] melee rush.
[4] tight melee fighting line. i like having [4] for this so the lines are always staggered (units aren't directly behind each other)
[5] box melee.
[7] with an arc length of 16, this formation is pretty much a straight line. the spacing gets uneven though if you have a lot of units selected.

you may also want to consider changing your keyboard settings. some players use right-click as attack ground (instead of control click). moving taunt, center selection, and deselect closer to qweasd (camera controls) can help too.

After the initial shift double click, there's lots of stuff to micro! Pull the moonwalking guys out from the back and retarget them, and then just keep shift double clicking small groups of your melee vs nearby targets. Target priority should be something along the lines of:

Nearness
Weakness (spiders, ghols, wounded units)
Dangerousness (stygs inflict damage quicker than warrs, myrks inflict damage quicker than zerks, etc)

Retreating your targeted units helps too.

Kind of like pétanque, according to Wiki.

Let's have a 1v1 ball rolling retirement match to determine which is the superior sport!

your win at the WLBC was a fluke, Shai. My ball would have been closer if not for the golden eagle that carried it off.

And yeh shinc, I think bocce is the same thing, though I haven't read the rules for either.

what i feel works is holding your formation till the latest possible moment. even if it means taking a few hits yourself before engaging in meelee.

I've experimented shift click attacking all enemy myrks in a melee group on maps like shuffle with usually great results.

Depends on several things for it to work: That you have at least a 2-3 myrk advantage. That the enemy myrks aren't somehow in the back of the enemy pack thus your units moon walking like crazy. Luck.
