Hi, Mat. I remember you.
in addition to the Tain, you could grab the stuff here: http://www.orderofhpak.com/BattlePlan.php . there's some real good shtuff there.
Whatever you do, get the tfl multipack (or map pack) from projectmagma.net's downloads, or maybe from teh Tain. It's pretty crucial. It has loads of maps for Myth 2 in it.

Matt,
Welcome back, I don't remember you specifically, but always nice to see people returning to myff.
Frum gave a good list of multiplayer maps to get... lots of new (especially if you;ve been gone for a while) solos/coops at the tain.

Ducky is jaded and assumes that all that OoH plays is just for fun, and therefore not worth "playing." Wait, isn't play something we do for fun? Ducky used to have fun, now I'm not so sure...
Vr, even Acts of Piety (Cruelty) is on the BattlePlan, so it's down to 3 of Ducky's favorites that we don't have. Hear that, Ducky? We have all but 3 of the maps in your list on the OoH BattlePlan (our own must-have list), all linked and ready to go! Plus so many more you're probably too cynical to try. You're so quick to dismiss.
Dang, I liked you better when you were fun. I really miss that Ducky.

Last time I played any games with the Duck was back in TFL days. Many moons ago.

ya i know. you guys have a lot of unneccessary maps that no one outside of ooh plays more than once every six years.
its nice that you're helping returning players, but seriously, get over yourselves. lol - cynics are a dime a dozen. Whatever!
Smells is also on the BP - we just took the ceiling out and included it in the "No Ceiling Maps" zip since it's fun to play with non-standard units after you've played it to death with the standard ones. We don't play it much these days, so we pulled the "standard" Smells off the BP. The BP isn't The Tain, it's the stuff we like to play.
Calm - well, I must admit we don't like the map much. We played it a few times then only played it in the MWC's. It was on the list to axe so ::CHOP:: When we need/want it again, it'll reappear. I'm sure it's available umpteen places for those who want it.
A Poison Holiday - we played it once (twice mb?) - just didn't cut it for us. It's nowhere near as fun as a huge chunk of those "other maps" we play all the time, so it was axed long ago.
I think without the addition of maps into the MWC a lot of players would never play anything but the standard maps. Thought it was great when more third-party maps were introduced, but gradually got bored when it was the same third-party maps over and over and over. Seriously: Mjila? The Barrens? Shuffle? Once you know the one precise unit trade for Flag Rally and have a team who can execute it properly it's no longer a game - it's a test of micro skills. And unless your opponent is at the same level it's like a 43-7 Superbowl. Yawn.
You have to actually play new maps to find out if they are fun or not, and sometimes it's only one map/game combo in an entire plugin that's worth playing. Hidden gems. Most people are lazy and would never take the time to look at a new map let alone play it. We play games like Bacon and Assassin where the game is new and exciting each time, not the same old FR game every time. We're into diversity and fun - and we like to share.
We like showing players (old and new) that there are more things to play than just the standard maps and MWC maps. A lot more. No one has to play any of it, but at least it's available. If we didn't tell them, who would?
I still get emails and PM's from people telling me how much fun they have playing our stuff. How precisely any of this is "being into ourselves" I have no idea. We used to hear that now and then from a handful of Gimble-CTF-no-doubling-ranked-only players. Bor-ing...
But they'll always be people that eat nothing but meat and potatoes. That's absolutely fine - for them. But knowing there's more out there than meat and potatoes is a god-send for some people.

As to meat and potatoes, a lot of what we have is the frosting.
I mean frosting on the cake, not the meat and potatoes. We have the cake for dessert, see, with the frosting on it. MWC is like dinner: spinach and brussels sprouts and liver. And potatoes.
If are good and we eat our dinner at MWC, then we can have our (just) desserts.
Btw, while we're trying to eat dinner at MWC, we invariably end up as someone else's snack!
Ducky come back! I have a film in which you were my captain on Krakatoa. You watched my few melee approach the enemy's small clump of melee. I'm sure you were feeling doom in the pit of your stomach. But I microed the bastards to death and you said,

I forgot which of those hapless guys from the other team it was, but it was one whom anyone would naturally assume would take me out. Nope.

Ducky, you gotta make a comeback, too. Come back to the light side.
Here's that film: Great Krakatoa FR Game With Ducky and stuff.

Heh. And that's just our PUBLIC list of maps. You should see the private ones - we have maps that no one has EVER even played. Even ourselves. Like that one "Catfight on the Plains" conversion that turns Raid on the the Plains into a supermodel mudwrestling map. It pits a team of 10 Sports Illustrated Cover Models against a team of Victoria's secret models. It r00lz. Or at least that's what the readme says. I wouldn't know of course. I mean, having never played it. Really.
its nice that you're helping returning players, but seriously, get over yourselves.
We do try, but seriously dude, the things we like are just so gosh darn freaking awesome that even we have a hard time talking about anything except what we like. Cthulu knows we've tried to talk about maps we don't like to play, and games we aren't at all interested in, but unlike the rest of the Myth community, for some reason we just seem to be really fixated on things we like and are interested in.
Baak, what did I tell you about that? Don't be telling a heathen all our secrets. (At least you didn't tell him about the series of 'No Floor' zero-Gravity conversions I am working on)
We like showing players (old and new) that there are more things to play than just the standard maps and MWC maps. A lot more. No one has to play any of it, but at least it's available. If we didn't tell them, who would? I'll bet Tom Cruise or some other scientologist would.

Well, at least I don't feel so bad knowing that out of the entire pool of 850+ Myth II ffa/team maps, there are only 2 maps the "rest" of the Myth community likes that aren't on my frequent play list.
But Berel, WHY is this a competition? It sounds like OoH in general agrees with 95% of your list. I would think you would feel affirmed and confident about your map choices to have such cool people agree with your map faves.
