First, just wanted to say hi, I'm new here. I was a Myth vet from long long ago when the game came out, but I haven't played in like 8 years, but was pleased to see the community is still kicking.

But I had a couple simple questions, mainly about addons.

First, I was wondering if there are any camera mods out there? I'd like something that would let me have more control over it, increasing the max zoom ranges, that kind of thing.

Also, is there anything out there that makes saving in single player easier? I know it's a small thing, but I'd like to just push a button and have the save or load screens come up, not go through the menu everytime. I know I've lost a lot of ground from being too lazy to save, then I get into a bad encounter, and I have to go way back.

Nope to both. The max zoom in/out is part of the engine and well in a way part of the map someone makes. If they make the map high even with max zoom you won't be able to zoom any further. As for a one button type of saving. Part of the engine as well. Maybe you've been getting spoiled with newer games that let you alter much much more. \:p

Well I'm not really surprised--just hate the camera sometimes, but I can see your point.

You can adjust the camera speed using Fear or Loathing (forgot which, but you have them with your Myth installation.) Adjust the Camera Constant, I think it was. I'm sure others know offhand what you'd need to do. It's not exactly what you were looking for, but there it is.

Why do you hate the camera? Perhaps its something small that can be fixed through preferences. And yes Frum is right about changing the speed using Fear.

Eh, I can live with it, it's just I'd like to be able to see a little further, whether by zooming out more, or having the zoom angle change a little, but I figured it was a pretty unlikely thing to be able to do.

Well I am still sulking because no one would add multiple monitors mapping to multiple cameras to Myth II v1.7. I really wanted to have additional monitors acting like 'sideview' and 'rearview' mirrors.

ps. Welcome back to Myth! Seems like a lot of people lately are dusting off their old Myth II CDs...

Yes thank you, I'm glad to be back \:D

And on the topic of coming back, I need some additional help from a kind soul(less).

Like I said, it's been like 8 years since I played. Well, I've decided to play through the SP levels first (I just found the TFL mod so I'm doing those first), but after I finish that and get back into the swing of things, I'd like to start playing multiplayer again. Only problem is I have no idea how.

I tried joining a game the other night--a 3v3 team game of some kind, king of the hill I think. Anyway, it made me leader, and I had NO idea what to do. I've been looking for a faq or something with no luck, and I don't have any documentation about the online play.

So, just a couple questions:
Which classes should I AVOID choosing? Like Jmen?
How do I go about giving units to teammates? The detach unit button I assume, but I'm not positive.
I'm not so worried about the actual gameplay, I'm sure all of that will come back to me. Anything else I might need to know? How to toggle messages between teammates and everyone?

Or I guess just a link to a faq would be more than enough \:D

There's lots of info in the Myth Graveyard .

The link above takes you to just the 'strategy' articles which has a couple of general articles about how to pick the right 'unit mix' as well as some guides to picking units on specific maps, some info about using different units effectively, and some general captaining strategy guides. Don't be intimidated by the quantity of articles, browse around a bit and I am sure you will find some helpful stuff. (and don't hesitate to ask here on the forums, someone will almost always have the answer to anything Myth related you can ask)

To answer a couple of your specific questions, to give units to a teammate you select the units you want to give, then press backslash (\) if you have more than one teammate a list of your teammates will appear with a number beside the persons name. Press the number of the person you want to give units to. (Pressing F7 will show you statistics for your team - the %of your team's units each player has)

For Key mappings and other general info there's a copy of an old (and very outdated) Myth II FAQ at http://mything.org/index.php?a=article-read&o=0000000336.

Thanks everybody, that should get me up to speed.

Heh, I have one more question, then I think I'm done for the day.

I read somewhere (but I can't remember where, or find the thread again) that it's possible to change your formations using one of the editing tools. Is this very hard to do? And does anyone have any suggestions for any formations that they've made? I only use a couple of the default formations, I'd like to have some that are a little more useful than Rabble....

also note that shift clicking arrows during Unit Trading maxes or mins the units out. Generally it's a good idea to start off trade by bringing thrall or brigs down to 0, unless it's capture the flag, in which case you get a few of them to guard flag. Always get the maximum amount of trow and fetch whatever the map is.

Here are the most standard trades:

Killing Grounds:
3/3 Heron Guard Heros
8/8 Archers
6/6 ghols
4/6 dwarfs
never get anything different than this. if you do, your team mates will most likely drop.

Light maps:
always get puss. Puss is the result of healing your own wights so they die and drop puss which your ghols pick up. 1 wight will drop 5 pieces of puss, but only 2 useful ones (the big ones, the ones that explode). So on any small light map always get 1jman and 2 ghols (the wight is often given and untradeable). On big light maps (like desert), always get atleast half of the available wights, and twice as many ghols as wights, and 1 jman to heal the wights.
So, if you wanted 8 puss on des, you would get: 4 wights, 8 ghols, 1jman.

Most other things on light maps require a good balance of all units, except thrall.

Dark map unit sets vary a lot more, but again, ALWAYS MAX TROW, most myrks, max fetch, and spend the rest in a balance between other melee (like zerks) and other arty (morts, locks, souls).
