Effective immediately, the use of the 'Guest' login has been removed. You must now register an account to play on Mariusnet.

Go into your user profile here on the web page and update your password. Doing that is the final step as the metaserver account is not created using the temporary password that is sent out in the email.

Hi! This is a great site. Thanks for hosting the Aleph One multiplayer server.
Anyway, when I try to change my password and click "submit" I get a white page saying "The website cannot display the page." When I refresh and go back to my profile, my password is still the same. Please help!

Is that true for Marathon as well? Almost nobody I see playing Marathon has a Mariusnet account. Consequently, I'm always at the top of the list! Who0T!

Also, how come you wanted to disable the guest login thing -- was there some trouble? Just curious.

[edit: nevermind, I see the other thread ("We need help in Arrival" and understand. What a-holes, man.]

Okay, so the situation is even weirder than I thought. My confirmation e-mail says my password is what I want it to be, and I used the password I wanted to log in, but in "My Profile" it says that my password is something else. What does it say my password is? Well, I don't know, because it obviously shows up as a bunch of asterix due to it being a password. I only know it's different because it's the wrong number of characters. This wouldn't bother me all that much, except that my "correct" password won't let me log onto the Marathon server, meaning I can only play as a guest. I'm glad that guests have been re-enabled, but I'd like to log in with my screenname instead of a random one. Has anyone else had a problem like this? Maybe I'm missing something really simple, but I'm quite confused. Thanks!

Edit: I tried logging in as a guest, and instead of the random name described by the latest news post, I showed up with my normal screen name. Now I'm really confused, but at least I can play online again!

I'll clarify if I can:


The number of asterisks it shows when you view your Profile page is meaningless. In the background, that field is actually populated with temporary data and the page will only attempt to alter/update your password if that temp data changes.

Confused? Try it this way, ig nore what you see there unless/until you wish to change your password.


Which takes us to that part... Resetting your password on your profile page simultaneously resets your metaserver password. If you ever cannot get logged in there, just come here and reset/update the password. By default (and I need to update my documentation, I know), a new account will likely have to change/update their password to get their metaserver account working.


As for the Guest renaming thing... the setting IS turned on, but it appears to want a restart of the metaserver for it to take affect. Rather than bumping everyone off just as they are getting back to things, I figured I'd just wait until a less busy time to do the restart.

You're definitely registered because you're posting here under a registered name.

Go into your profile here on the website and reset/update your password. Doing so will simultaneously reset/synchronize your game server password with the website.
