There are some disruptive people joining into the marathon room and posing as admin to scare off the new players by telling them to leave due to software upgrades. It is easy enough to ignore them but it is keeping the community from growing.

The users are posing an Plataypus and Admin on guest accounts. New users don't know the difference between a guest login and the moon so they believe it.

Looks like it is time to turn off guest accounts, or just shut down the Marathon rooms altogether.

Too late.

I'll probably turn them back on later.... or not, I dunno.


It is entertaining to watch the constant iterations of "Marathon Client Login" in the metaserver but not seeing the number of people logged in increasing.

No, it means that it is a message that I don't have any problem whatsoever shutting things down if people are going to be dumbasses.

The Rooms and Marathon logins are re-enabled now.

Wow, what the hell? I love playing Marathon on mariusnet. I've never witnessed any of that, but if any of those dudes shows up with an infinity symbol in front of their names and pretending to be PPE or admins when I'm there, they are goin' down! Admins, my ass. That is annoying as hell. Goddam a-holes. They prolly came from the rank h00rs of Myth, sounds just like some of them.

Btw, if I don't sound like Nice Frum of Myth, it's cuz these yahoos are threatening my Marathon!

if you're on Myth you cant access the marathon rooms, so it most likely wasn't mythers.


about guest accounts:
i know there is a useful command [.wankguests] that wanks all guest accounts, but sadly there isn't a [.muteguests] command that mutes all guests. to mute guests you have to select them and press the mute button, the old bungie net way. if there was a way of having all guests muted, then disabling guest accounts wouldn't be necessary.

And if a nice Myther can play there, so can the others. Unless they -- those bad guys -- ruin it for us, of course. But really I realize the world is full of that sort and it prolly wasn't Mythers. Mb WoWers! Or BF1942ers!

Yeah, probably not too many people hanging out simultaneously in both Marathon and Myth server rooms, but for sure there is some overlap.

As to the "nice frum", I thought he was just a Myth - related role you play. I always suspected there was an Evil Frum lurking in the corners of FPS game lobbies waiting to hate play n00bs..

I think that's actually impossible. I think I tried doing that, so I could see both lobbies and hop into whichever had the best game -- but it wouldn't work, so I assume it doesn't work because it means I'd be logging onto mariusnet twice simultaneously with one user ID.

Oh, I was bummed, defeated, heartbroken and dejectected -- then I realized that if doing this were possible it would mean that some idiot (smart idiot, tho) would figure out a way to abuse it and ruin things for all of us. They do tend to try ruining things, don't they? All the ghol darn time.

There's a widget (Assuming you have Mac OSX 10.4.x < ) that allows you to see the Myth series and Marathon games going on. I have it installed but I don't remember where I got it...I'll search around for a link.

About the widget, thanks -- I have it! I like it, too -- it's cool as thell -- but I wish it broke the info down more and let me resize its window. I was wanting it to show the games going on, too. I'm not sure how often those statistics are updated through it and this website, either, whereas if I'd been able to log onto Myth and Marathon simultaneously I'd get all that info in real time and could hop into a game instantly.

You can't log in both simultaneously, but you can log in as your registered user on one, and guest on the other.
