Thought I would move this to here instead od the other thread. I just bought a new lens frum. 85mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor
OMGZ..I love how freaking sharp it is. Obviously it is a fixed mm. But the less range a lens is...the sharper the image. There is a 200mm Nikkor I was looking at for sports. I don't make enough money in the sports category to warrant spending that.

Nice, are you using that 85 for portraits and such? I have the great-great-great ancestor to that 85mm, an old manual focus one. It has such a nice wide aperture, and is very sharp... and not really too well-suited to the new digitals since it can't take advantage of any CPU stuffs. But I did love it and can't get part with it.
So for sports you'd go for a prime lens rather than some kind of zoom? I know it'd be somewhat sharper, but the pro zooms can also be pretty sharp and they give you so much compositional flexibility. But that's just my speculation. I think you're much more active as a pro photographer; my jobs are pretty sporadic, more of a side thing. Photoshop brings in some money, too... in fact I'm teaching a class in it at the community college here.

Well, sports don't bring me much money. H.S. sporting events and such. To get a great lens for sports would run me about $10,000 for the one I love That is pro grade though you see on a NFL sideline. From where I am posted at sporting events..a 200mm would work just fine and the speed and sharpness would be what I need. I already have a good zoom lens that hits 200mm. I just like to play. yes the 85mm is for portraits. The eyes really pop. manual focus isn't bad at all..just have to take your time a bit more Slow photographers usually make the best shots. I only average 6-8 jobs a month in off season (models and such). When senior pictures come in..it can be up to 10 a week.

DA..if I had a small fortune to blow..I would have a ton of them and a backup D300. My case only holds soo many I have 5 right now..some ppl have more, some have less. I want a new telephoto lenz and a new macro one. That would make me happy for a few more years.

Nice spider. That's what this topic is all about -- photos, not equipment! Here's a little scene of carnage I found unfolding on my driveway.

I don't know if the beetle killed the centipede all by itself or just found it, but it ate the dang thing right then and there. My guess is that the beetle scavenged it.

I wish I had a beach view right now. I have been tracking a family of deer this week, shot em once in normal light and Friday night in the fog. Found them only twice. Yes I go looking for fresh poo and tracks. Ohio is just plain yuckie.

Couldn't you use a filter to relax the lights from the buildings?

I love this picture..not sure why. Some Russian chick that came over here a few years ago. Taken with my D-80 18-200mm lens. I actually got rid of that lens..due to scratches. I was an idiot and didn't have a UV lens on it to protect it.

I didn't know your a Pro Bag...Your studio is in the UK? I am a on location photographer..that will be a thing of the past though. My wife wants me to settle down and not travel as much..so I am looking into a studio this year or next and doing more senior picture stuff or models coming to me.
