Ok I'm getting the "may be full or firewall" message. I can see the game I create on one computer but can not join on my other computer. I have read the FAQ answer and my router is port fowarded and there is no software firewalls on. I was SO excited to find out that I can still play my beloved Myth II, but now I'm stuck.
I have both the demo and the real game. Does the demo need another patch beyond 5.1? I haven't had any luck getting the full game started yet- but first things first- any ideas how I can get the demo working?

From what you've written I am having difficulty understanding what problem you're experiencing with Myth.
Do you have the latest demo from http://getmyth.com ? You should be able to play online on that, but it is limited to 3 maps.

What kind of problem are you having with running the full game?

If you are on Mnet and you host a game, you cannot join that game from your other computer because both are using the same IP.

The demo is using 1.5.1 and there is no need (at least not yet) to update it. Users running 1.5.1 can still play with 1.6 users. Those two versions can run in 1.5.1 mode as long as a 1.5.1 user is present. Older versions can't do this. To test your ability to host you would need to get online and see if someone joins your game. If they can join then you don't have a blocked port or firewall on.

Thanks for the tip. I did finally install the full game and successfully had people join a game of mine! This means that the problem with my own computers joining each other must be what you said- the same IP address or something similar. I don't have problems joining my own games with games like Battle for middle Earth or Halo- why does it matter for Myth 2?
After checking i found that each computer does have a unique address- so I'm not sure why I can't join myself. I want to find out so that my brother can join in too (he lives far away from me).

Can a demo version join a full version (on the one map it has)
and Can a full version join a demo?

THanks for reading this and your helpful answers!

Your computers have different local IPs, but online they use the same online IP. The reason it matters for Myth is because that is how the metaserver works. I guess they had some reason for doing it that way. To see what your IP is go to this following page: http://www.whatismyip.com If both computers of yours go to this site they will both show you the same IP.

Yes, a full version can join a demo version and vice versa. As long as both have the same maps and the full version uses 1.5.1 or 1.6 it will work. It was made like that so you can actually try it hence being a true demo.
