I am getting sick of my accountant and I want to reduce my overhead a bit.

Soo..any of you guys ever use quickbooks? I hear it is pretty good and blends with Turbo Tax..which I have never used.

aaaaaand go.

I've never used Quicken or Quickbooks, but I use Turbo Tax every year... I haven't been audited yet \:p

I forgot to include:

Any of you an LLC. I was thinking of jumping from soul-propietor or an LLC. I know there is a lot more work involved..just wondering if it is worth it.
Thanks

Somehow I never imagined the Grim Reaper setting himself up as an LLC.

C-Corp here.
We use Quickbooks but don't bother with TurboTax. We just generate a year-end report and hand it over to our accountant, who's a retired IRS agent.

lol..I told you I was tired..omg..I need sleep bad.

I am just trying to weigh in the extra protection vs. more work.

SOLE Proprietor is easy...but tends to get audited more often. It is simple and easy. I guess Soul-proprietor would be soulblighter's title if he came back now.

LLC would seperate me more from my company..which gives me more protection. Then I am an employee \:\(
I looked into S-corp..but I like the advantages of LLC more. I just don't want to do all the freak'n work.

I just skimmed through c-corp..You and your wife are partners right Scratch?

So you like quickbooks then?

hehe, I thought you'd appreciate the typo

I actually need to start thinking through the same thing.

The one website I run that supports this place is a sole proprietorship right now and I'm getting killed on taxes (thank God for being able to deduct server leasing!).

One of the main things I hate about an LLC is I am an employee and I can't just dip into the money like you can in sole-proprietor. I have to cut a check and deal with paperwork or I can pay a company $16 a check and they do all the paperwork.

Just dipping into your money is bad business practice anyway!

I don't dip to dip..ehh?

Say I want to go out to lunch and it isn't work related. I can dip and not worry about it. My money is the business' money.
All money I make from my business just sits there anyways. My wife makes enough to cover the house and all the bills...omg..I am a freeloader!

We sure are.
Quickbooks is OK, I just hate Intuit as a company after the work I did for them.

I beta tested Quickbooks Pro for a few years for them (did it for the free software) but got tired of it. Now they incorporate "sunsetting", which is an evil practice!

I don't know what "sunsetting" is?

So you think quickbooks is good then. I am not buying it if there is better software out there. I have the trial..I got it at a business class I took.

Basically it's a date that they set where they absolutely refuse to offer support. If you have a problem, something, anything at all, you're screwed.

For some odd reason last year I had to reinstall QB Pro. I couldn't locate the replacement CD I had from Intuit that had our Serial Number written on it. Soooo, like anybody else, I called Intuit and asked them to pull up my info. Sarah (in India, real name: unpronounceable) happily informs me that she doesn't have that info and since that product was sunsetted the freakin' week before, she was unable to help me.

So, just like that, it's time to shell out the $ for a newer version of the software that I neither wanted nor needed.

Oh yeah, I remember what the problem was..... that's when Internet Explorer 7 came out, which for some reason known only to a few nerdy retards, broke Quickbooks.

i used quikbooks pro several years ago. liked everything about it, especially the way it seems you can customize about everything like reports. the only thing i didn't like was the extra cost payroll function. (this may have changed by now. i read lotsa complaints about that at the time) we were using the payroll also and we closed the company in march or april. so we stopped paying the extra for the payroll "add-on". at the end of the year when it was time for year end reports and w-2's, we were unable to access any of the payroll history and reports or print w-2's. even though we weren't trying to print any checks or figure payroll taxes, etc. worse part was if i would have know in advance, i could've turned off the software autoupdate option and it wouldn't have been disabled all the functions i wanted to keep. customer service was not sympathetic and i had to manually type w-2's.

none of this prob matters to you cuz it doesn't sound like you are dealing with payroll anyway.

i've used taxact.com for the last 4 or 5 years for personal taxes. it works great. you can import stuff from the previous years taxes and it goes real quick. and its really easy to make changes and compare (for instance whether it is advantagous to claim my daughter in college and pay her back for her loss). and if its just taxes for one person/couple/family its free.

Thank you kind sir.
The paycheck part I will hire a company to deal with that. Payroll is about $16.00. Since I am becoming a LLC probably and I bought all the equipment. The company now owes me the loan amount. So that is how I will be taking my pay for now.
