About one week ago I started having problems with Myth.
I log onto Mariusnet alright, start in Crowīs Bridge, try to get into Sons Of Myrgard. And get thrown straight back into Crow's Bridge. I try again. And again. Then finally I get in. For a few seconds, until I get Room went down blah blah. I know very little about computers in general, but it seems to me this might be a problem that is on my side, and has nothing to do with Marius.
Strange thing is, absolutely nothing has changed in my comp or connection this past week. Expect I canīt play Myth.
I have no idea why this is.
BTW, I can get into all other rooms just fine. Just the rooms that actually have some playerīs are a problem. Maybe I should just get rid of this game and use my time for sth else.
Itīs the only game I have ever played on the internet.I think that concludes this much too long rant.

What? I think you need to edit that, but I take it you meant it has an awful multiplayer trip? It is awful compared to Myth's much more socially-oriented approach in terms ability to communicate with other people from lobby and in-game. But in case you thought that there is no multiplayer, there is. It's hosted here on Mariusnet. It's fun! Way bogus for chatting compared to Myth, though.

As for your problem, hmm.... no idea.

Make sure you are on version 1.6

Try unloading all unnecessary plugins.

Worst case scenario, try a clean install.

I have tried a fresh install. It did not help.
And yeah, I have 1.6.

One last idea... if you are behind a router/firewall try setting your machine to be in the DMZ. Each room runs on a different port, if for some reason the ports for the rooms you are trying to connect to are blocked it would likely appear on your end as if the room went down.

I donīt know how to DMZ, and I donīt actually want to do it. Seems much too risky for me. I donīt have any software FWīs or anything. The problem started just a week ago, there was absolutely no problem before that. There must be something wrong with my connection. I have no idea what it could be though.

Thanks for the help PPE, I respect what youīre doing, keeping the server up and all that.

If nothing else, look into doing to DMZ thing as a confirmation.

If doing it resolves it, you know that the problem is indeed a port issue AND that it is on your end. You could also try calling your service provider and ask if there has been any sort of traffic filtering been put in place.

For the record, the ports needed for connecting to the rooms are 6324 thru 6350.

I looked into the DMZ thing, I just donīt have a clue how to do it.
Does disabling the routers firewall have any effect in the direction of DMZing?

Ok, not sure if it has a DMZ... but here is a brief bit about port forwarding which is "selective DMZ'ing": http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/ZyXEL/P-660HW-D1/

Basically, you could just forward a range of ports, from say 6400-6500 to your machine's IP address.

The firewall *could* affect you, so turn it off for testing. Turn it back on after testing.

I forwarded ports 6300-6500 and turned off the firewall.
Still nothing.
I just now got into Sons of Myrgard, on the fifth try, strange thing is only a part of the players show up, no games show up, even though there are five running and when I write anything in chat it does not show up.

EDIT: Then I dropped. About two minutes in. The games did not show up, I think the player list filled out, did not count them.

That is just freaky weird.

Are you on a PC with a dual core CPU?
If so, Try setting the CPU affinity.

Is there another computer in the house that you could try it on?If so, that will tell you if it is your connection/DSL Modem or if it is the specific machine.

Further update: I have no idea if it has anything to do with my problem, but when I login, I start in Crows Bridge but according to Marius nets who is online forum im in Ash, which is strange, because I did not go into Ash at any point after login.
Iīm starting to believe my connection is causing this, even if it works fine.

Do a clean install again.

Completely delete your install to the point where there is no 'Myth II' folder.
Then reinstall, and re-update to 1.6

My guess is that if you are getting the wrong rooms, your tags are hosed.

here's another simple one... have you tried unplugging the power to the router/bridge for a few secnods and pluggin it back in to force a reset of the connection?

Aside from that, call your ISP and ask for their help... that's all I can think of bro.

Just now, I was making some attempts to get into SoM.
Did not work, but what I found more interesting was that I could get into every other room expect for Bagrada.
According to Marius the only player in the room was MR. Guildenstern.
So my Iīm thinking, could his being there affect my failure to enter the room in any way?
PS, even now after he has left the room I canīt join it.
So, it seems Bagrada and SoM just donīt like me.

Does each room open to a different port? If so, it's possible your ISP has a block on those ports.

I just updated Myth to 1.6 after not playing for like 12 years and ran into the same issue. Something weird I noticed when trying to force my way into the room using Find - the rooms listing shows everyone in Sons of Myrgard, but using Find shows everyone in Vigilance, which isn't even in my rooms list. I've been using the same install of Myth since the early 1990's, so I'll probably reinstall later or something.

I hate you PPE, and the Browns suck <3

Edit: So I started playing around a bit because I'm way too lazy to reinstall. I deleted my "metaserver" prefs and re-selected marius as my server of choice in-game. I'm now able to join Sons of Myrgard... kinda. It pops me into the lobby, shows the player list, but never fully loads me in - no chat, no games, and most of the .dot commands don't work. Things get boring in a hurry when all you can do is .userid the entire lobby.

Edit edit: Nevermind, that was just stupid luck. I can't even get in now.

EDIT: I called my ISP and some bloke told me that there were no ports they were blocking.

not specifically, no..... just the range that is listed up above.

Here it is again though:

6324 thru 6350

My guess is that you either have something blocking the port(s) for those room(s) _OR_ you have an application running in the background that has already taken those ports.

Actually, if you are on a PC, you can use "netstat -a" from a command prompt to see what is using ports on your machine.

Being that I am connected Mariusnet and am in Sons of Myrgard now, I can see the following in my netstat -a listing:

Active Connections

Proto Local Address Foreign Address State
TCP hermes:epmap hermes.MythForums.com:0 LISTENING
TCP hermes:microsoft-ds hermes.MythForums.com:0 LISTENING
TCP hermes:4156 hermes.MythForums.com:0 LISTENING
TCP hermes:31038 hermes.MythForums.com:0 LISTENING
TCP hermes:netbios-ssn hermes.MythForums.com:0 LISTENING
TCP hermes:1432 u15250036.onlinehome-server.com:6348 ESTABLISHE
D
TCP hermes:1043 hermes.MythForums.com:0 LISTENING
TCP hermes:5354 hermes.MythForums.com:0 LISTENING
TCP hermes:10110 hermes.MythForums.com:0 LISTENING
UDP hermes:microsoft-ds *:*
UDP hermes:isakmp *:*
UDP hermes:1025 *:*
UDP hermes:1026 *:*
UDP hermes:1027 *:*
UDP hermes:1070 *:*
UDP hermes:1071 *:*
UDP hermes:4500 *:*
UDP hermes:ntp *:*
UDP hermes:netbios-ns *:*
UDP hermes:netbios-dgm *:*
UDP hermes:1900 *:*
UDP hermes:5353 *:*
UDP hermes:ntp *:*
UDP hermes:1900 *:*

That tells me that Sons of Myrgard is TCP 6348.

You can verify if the port is open using telnet.
Again from a command prompt, type (without the quotes) "telnet Myth.mariusnet.com 6348" and hit enter.

You will either hang briefly and get an error or it will go black and give you a flashing cursor and after a few seconds it will disconnect you. If it is the latter, the port is open and you are able to connect. If it is the former (brief hang and then an error) then something is using or blocking that port.

Use netstat -b to show which executable is using a port.

A somewhat popular program that uses TCP 6346 thru 6348 is Gnutella. If you have it, shut it down.

Ditto... which is weird.

On a side note, I had like 8 hours of chat lag when trying to send messages, but only in SoM - every other room was fine.

Edit: ... and now it's down. Pretty sure my campus internet is just being retarded.

Edit edit: Fresh install updated to 1.6, still no dice. Going to kill myself.
