If one wanted to create a "Hey inactive Myth gamer, why don't you come back and check out Myth, it's even more fun than you remember!" advertisement/reminder to send to some Myth players who haven't been around lately, what do you think such a note should have in it?
I was thinking that this kind of letter should be positive, encouraging in tone, and should convey the following facts/points:
1) There is an active community still playing Myth on the newly refurbed Mariusnet game server (provide link)
2) Myth II has been updated to run under OS X and Windows XP/Vista and has been updated with other features too. (provide download link(s) to projectmagma.
3) Lots of new maps and solo levels have been created recently (include links to The Tain)
4) there is an active online community (links to mariusnet.com & projectmagma.net forums).
Any thing else y'all can think of that would be good to include in a letter like this?
Its a great idea - probably best working way to bring new peaople to community. I remeber that I spammed Polish gamers forums just a bit few years ago and that brought us something like 7-10 returning/new people for a while - and one guy is playing regulary till this day So, I always wondered how many new poaple could we get after advertising Myth in whole Europe, Americas etc.., for sure its worth a try, more than anything else.
Do the work for the returning players and make it easy and simple for them to get up to speed and return.
Links to instructions on how to re-install M2 and patch. Links to a list of popular 3rd party maps and such. Links to simple instructions on installing maps and such. Links to basic game play tutorials / strats /how-to's.
One sticky post in these forums with this stuff would probably suffice.

Exactly. Links to the specific FAQ's, thetain, useful posts here - that sort of stuff in one easy to read sticky post aimed at making it quick and easy to get up to speed.
In the email sent out to promote M2, instead of jamming it full of how-to's and such, it can be short and sweet and direct people to the sticky post - Which would be easy to keep up to date.

This tourney is gold for getting new blood around here and rekindling interest in Myth. It is also more than worthy of a press release.
There are several free distribution services and this type of news is really perfect fodder for blogs and gaming websites. There is also a chance some print publications will write about it because of the prize and nostalgia value.
