People do care about it -my friends and I play it regularly just cause we like the graphics. Its a shame one can't bring the quality of Myth II level design into Myth 3 - it would really help rejuvenate the game.

Very few people ever owned a copy of Myth 3 though, even amongst the diehards here.

I dunno, there was that list back on PMnet of people who have it and are willing to play. It was a pretty huge list. "Very Few" is a pretty relative term...

Just most much prefer m2. Course, that still stands for me. If you see me online and want to play some M3, just shoot me a PM or what have you.

Isn't anyone excited about the new Myth III 1.3.1 release?

This is beyond simple omission, this is a lie! Yay!

I contributed a comment to that page letting Blades know that mariusnet is a multiplayer game server that currently supports Myth III. I am sure Blades will correct the page shortly.

Actually - I was just playing some of the solo levels again for fun and remembered what was the great flaw in Myth III. The designers didn't know the most important thing about level design; the difference between challenging and frustrating. I've played all through Myth III and some of the levels are both clever and even beautifully done. The problem is - they're also at times so hard (at Mighty or above) that you can only defeat them by sheer muleheadedness. Too many times I'd complete a level but feel more annoyed that it took so long rather than satisfied. Of course maybe that's me - maybe I'm just not that good - but I never felt frustrated with Myth I for Myth II that way.
I will say tho - this of course does not apply to multiplayer, for that Myth III is great!

Computer games have becomem much easier than they used to be. In the late 1980's they were seriously tough. Today's young gamers would be in for a shock if they found it took them 2000 hours to beat Halo IV

Because it's hard to make new exciting halo levels with out a million hours of man power. Text based adventures, less so.

Late 1980s, not late 1970s!

Hmm, makes me think maybe for my next shareware title I should write Myth 0 - the command-line version! "There is a Trow there. He kicks you. You are dead."

M3 had some great looking multiplayer maps, even on my old 199mhz computer, the units however were the factor in that they weren't the same as M2.

Now that I'm on a better computer, better connection, and better graphics, I'll give it another chance if we can get a day for it.

Actually I recommend it. The trick is to turn down the play difficulty. I played M1 and M2 at Legendary and found it enjoyable. In M3 this is effectively impossible on some levels. I did complete all of the levels at "Mighty" but still found it so frustratingly hard as to not enjoy it at times. I just replayed much of it at "Easy" and really liked it a lot! If you're a veteran you might find it hard to swallow setting the level of difficulty so low but it's the game not you. The game is really fun when you do this (and see how many levels you can go without dying once!).
