-- kind of ping ? Not a tech person but maybe your new slightly less terrible connection has a faster connection. So there is no ping register. Did you always see a ping number before?
For me most hosts from the us and canada do not have a ping. The european hosts are around 90 and the japan and australian host are around 120 or 200. The south Americans range from 70 into the high 200's.

I only see ping #s when the ping is fairly high.

yep, only seeing -- now, and yes, i always saw pings before. even saw a ping on pogue's host (which is only a couple miles away from me)... usually around 13 ms. now i'm not even seeing pings on Euro hosts. oh well... thanks for the replies.

If you do figure it out, please post the answer. You can't be the only person experiencing this, you are probably just the only person who noticed.

well... I saw my first ping last night (~600 ms)... assuming it was an Aussie on dial-up or something. So I guess I CAN see pings... perhaps my new connection is far better than I originally thought it to be, although the speedtest.net tests are less than spectacular.

Well the amount of data being passed between you and the server while you are sitting in the lobby is so miniscule by current standards, it's conceivable that even a slight boost in speed could wipe out the tiny bit of ping lag you were seeing.

When the original server code was written (back in the bnet days) lots of players still used modems, and some of those weren't even 56k. 56k was pretty lag-free even during games unless you were playing a deathmatch game with pathfinder dwarves, and sitting in the lobby uses nowhere near the bandwidth you need for playing a game.

Good that everything is working for you.

Don't the double dashes mean the ping is incredibly high?
