The intent of mariusnet's owner is that Mariusnet be family friendy, but some individuals who feel they should be able to do whatever they want - even when they are a guest on a server someone else is paying for them to use - refuse to follow the rules so unfortunately one's experience of mariusnet is often far different from what it was intended to be.

It's really no worse than other gaming communities, though... there are always idiots and trolls. Sad but true. You need thick skin to be a gamer in this day and age. Not enough policing, and these idiots run rampant... too much policing, and people complain and form lynch mobs...

Mariusnet doesn't aspire to be like all the other gaming communities. It doesn't even aspire to be THE myth gaming community, it's just intended to be a place where everyone who wants to can play Myth in a friendly environment. If that means mariusnet consists of 10 civil players rather than 1000 players who insult each other with racial slang and barely-closeted homophobic insults, that would be preferred.

The problem is that mariusnet is the only place left for people to play Myth so instead of those people with a congenital aversion to following rules or treating other people civilly being able to find a place they can feel at home playing myth with other people who share their 'values', they end up squatting at mariusnet and trying to bring the server down to their level.

Unfortunately, despite numerous protests over the years, and attempts to form lynch mobs, not one person out of all the complainers is unhappy enough with the rules at mariusnet to set up their own server. There are at least a couple of free options for anyone interested, including an executable windows metaserver that is simple to set up, but apparently those players would prefer to whine and be unhappy than do anything to make a better place where they could game in 'peace' without being oppressed by mariusnet's 'unreasonable' rules and policies.

I think their behavior proves that they don't have the intelligence to set up their own server $\:D$ Just gotta hope that they grow out of it eventually... though I realize a few are just lost causes...

Ironically (?) it doesn't take much intelligence at all to get a server running if you use the .exe windows version.

Setting up a website, forums, and integrating user registration and ranking would take a fair amount of skill and effort, but just getting a server that people could connect to and play up and running takes maybe a half hour to an hour's worth of effort.

I've been playing myth since the tfl days. I think I have been disciplined once bc I logged in as 'admin'. This only happened bc that is my computer's default name, which myth placed in my screen name when I logged in.

Anyway, there shouldn't be too much of an issue with mnet's rules. Now maybe there is something I'm missing, I don't know. One of the things I have noticed is a lack of admin's in the lobby. In the old days you would usually see admin here and there. Most of the time they were pretty cool and more than once they helped me with some issue I was having. I think a fairly common presence of an admin in the lobby would help regulate some of the ppl being jerks. Another thing I suggest is giving out a blanket pardon for the past offenses of those banned. Give people a chance to improve their behavior. However this would require more admins to be around. If any serious rules were broken, ban that ip for a long period of time.

Just to clarify my suggestion:

1. Increase the presence of admins
2. Blanket pardons for offenses
3. Crack down hard on those who break the rules

This way everyone gets a shot at being a decent member of the myth community. If they blow it, they have no right to complain.

Those aren't bad ideas, but having supported 'pardons' for long-term ban-ees in the past and having seen the results I am not real keen on blanket pardons.

I can assure you that everyone has had plenty of chances to be a decent member of the myth community, in fact some have had way more chances than their behavior ever warranted.

Those that changed or at least learned how to fly under the radar are still here playing on mariusnet with no problems. Those who haven't figured out how to do either one keep creating new accounts and keep getting those accounts locked/booted/banned.

rat, the most effective marketing is supposed to be subliminal, so that the consumer feels as though it was their will and choice all along.

I think you've been competing for comet these last few weeks, in an effort to have your "TWS/MWC url name atop most myth lists. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that you're probably tweeting updates about forum posts and teams/players as they register.

You might just be the most Don-King-caliber promoting T.O. since Liger's offering $10,000 first prize for the MWC he never hosted.

I applaud your pardon-plea for the historically troll-zealot tumbleweeds, long since rolled over the precipice into the chasm that is the "guest account" - but admit it; openly - for the overall health of the remaining community.

You're proposal to release the inmates of the Arkham Assylum into the open air, might (would) yield the following:

1. 9 players would register as 39 players on 7 different teams - one of which is comprised of all 9 of them - which affords each of the 4 teams they are each respectively members of, in two different pools - easy wins by default, guarantee advancement through seeding.

2. the forum nonsense that typically runs rampant at this part of the growing season, would spill its bounty over into every game and every lobby conversation.

3. Kirk would start romancing us about big-block heritage, in ALL CAPS, until each of us palm-slaps ourselves into a coma.

4. there are probably going to be only 7 teams anyway, and my team of Gekko, Cosmictruth, Demolition, Grim, Cave, Pallidice, and Scratch (no, I'm not playing - I am only the fitness coach)... will likely call ourselves team "shut-out", and never lose a game - ever - for evermore.

5. Give us (me) Liger's $10,000 (that he doesn't have).

6. This is no longer a list about consequences....

7. Make Pyro an honorary admin - since he's a virtual in-dash Myth GPS unit, and his dry wit is better than Om's.

8. Do not make me an admin again - ever - for evermore.

9. I've run out of commentary, and interest in this thread.

10. Do nothing, and witness more of the same.

Why would you recommend pyro as an admin/mod for the new website? I'm curious and intrigued. 7 years ago no one would think anything like this would continue to persist, yet here we stand, zerk claymore in hand.

Funny spa, but not all true. I pursued the comet bc RZA was a celest. My goal was to unseat him, and I did. In fact hes not even in the top 10 now. Second, there was some myther (hammirabitherons or something) who was comet. He is not a real myther, he only played hunting. So I was like screw that, I'm going to beat these noobs at their own games. Which I did. Deadfall came to me very easily, and put me to the top. Keep in mind a was already in reach.

The rest seems pretty accurate. I just wish we could get more support in the lobby to counter these people driving others away from myth.

P.S. After a week or so I got tired of rank whooring, and I really dont like dummy accounts.

Rank ho's yeah we still got em. At least people don't dump a game anymore when things don't go their way. Rank and stats can tell a lot about peoples skills but do they mean everything? Three five ballers stacked in a tffa can sure put a damper on a single players ratios. And notorious none game type players sure can bring havoc to your plans. But who cares it's all just for fun. Well to me anyway. But Just for fun go to the stats page and check out the terries board. That's right! It's not high level skill like running around killing pigs but some skill is required.

absolutely... you can usually find a game or 2 throughout the day, but evenings (in N. America) are best. There is generally at least one game of FFA or 2 team game going, as well as a few coop games. It is not uncommon to find 30+ people online. There are some idiots on the server who like giving people a hard time, but just ignore these people, use the mute function, and enjoy yourself.

Don't know how long ago you played last(eg possibly pre-Chimera?), but there's still a pile of custom plugins/tagsets/maps you can get for free, and more keep coming. ps wwo, do you really own wwo.com and do printing? myself (im starting a company that manufactures children's toys) and my clients (from skysoftwebs - website being redone btw) could use it how would it work remotely since youre not in texas though?

do you think that wwo - which is an abreviation for "wayward one" - has named his myth character after his business in wisconsin?

I guess that liger.com is your site then, which is a good thing - since I'm starting a petting zoo for children, and need to find some big cats that are friendly - and like to be petted.

If you need some printing done for your toy company, you are better off having the manufacturer of the toys (I assume they are in asia) also offer you a price on printing, packaging, and drop-shipping the product, direct to your pick and pack location for fulfillment. The more hands you have touching the product - the less margin there is in the end.

no i think i had moused over wwo's name or profile or something and saw the wwo dot com.

i didn't take stock in it as i used to use imoncrack.com as my starcraft login and there never was a website there, actually i think there may have been but they were just host or cyber-squatting (its really sketchy and not going to explain it but i am a domainer and basically u can make money on sites because other domainers, usually programs, give you direct hits on the websites and it registers as direct traffic (domain tasting) u can use adsense or w/e to make money but theres all this legal babble and i dun like talking about it so dont ask me questions about this cuz it just gets into this infinite loop of wtf stop dividing by zero) on it like the myth2.com predecessor.

i digress,

as for liger.com in negotiating for this domain as i when i do my real blog i want it to be on that site.

obviously using china as one of the manufacturers ( are going to have different options and product quality (eg. people dont want sweatshop handled/made products so we will have american option as well (also for customized toys)), and can't wait to show you guys the site once its out of beta phase; literally like twelve people going hardcore into this project.

but ill ask the manufacturer if they do printing and their prices.

however i guess you may be unfamiliar i like paying and supporting mythers businesses for community.

its not all sweatshops in china by the way. My toy company is legit. One of my companies (http://www.automoblox.com/) is designed by me and two partners, built to spec (using wood from Germany) in China - packaged and shipped - and the price point and quality are better than any other deal anywhere in the world.

My wife's shoe company does the same.

Every American bicycle manufacturer, most car companies, clothing, electronics (including Apple), about 85% of the world's steel... etc....

It's just business.

Good luck with the American unions if you go that way. Manufacturing anything in this country is just bad business.
