ProjectMagma has obtained information that the user known as Renwood has engaged in the for-profit sale of original Myth II: Soulblighter materials, owned by Take Two Interactive. These materials consist of the original 3D model files used to render the unit sprites used by the game.
The buyer of the models is a member of the Myth Community. His purpose in buying the models was to give them to ProjectMagma, in the hopes that we could use them for a future improvement. What the buyer did not know was that ProjectMagma already possesses these models, and furthermore, that Renwood had obtained them from us in the first place. Renwood took advantage of the fact that our possession of the models was not public knowledge in order to scam the member into buying them. Not only did Renwood conduct an illegal sale of Take Two's property, but deliberately misrepresented the origin of the models and scammed a member of the Myth Community in order to make a quick buck.
A little backstory seems appropriate here. The models were obtained by ProjectMagma in 2009 for use in a future enhancement to Myth II, currently planned for Myth II 1.8. Their existence was kept secret because we did not want to make a premature announcement about a project that has an unknown completion date. Renwood obtained the models through ProjectMagma for the stated purpose of helping ProjectMagma with Myth II 1.8. The models were given under a restrictions agreement including nondisclosure and prohibiting redistribution. Renwood later broke the agreement when he used the models without permission in his mod, The Wind Age. We did not pursue any action at that time because, unfortunately, the agreement had been verbal and not written and we could not prove anything. Renwood denies any agreement ever existed. Also at the time we felt it was more productive to just ignore him and avoid any drama, especially since Renwood had announced his plans to retire from Myth after January 2010.
Ignoring the problem is no longer an option. Since Renwood's sale of the models, It is now clear to us that he is not retired, but is actively continuing his pattern of malicious and illegal behavior. ProjectMagma does not condone these actions. Therefore, we have no choice: Renwood will be IP banned from The Tain forums, from uDogs hotline (hl.udogs.net) and from the MariusNet server.

gotta chime in here, since the laundry is getting some air. A few months back, I almost opted to leave mariusnet for a good long while after enduring weeks of endless "pm" conversations (albeit, mostly one-sided) wherein Renwood was constantly trying to solicit money from me as an "investor" in an upcoming version of myth.
His position was often one of "feel sorry for me and ooga, because we work(ed) tirelessly on improving myth for all these players, and none of them seem to care - while we can't even afford food, or to pay our rent." Having started a few businesses over the years, I tried to convince him that he was not leaving me with a feeling of confidence, essentially urging me to "invest" in something that had no marketing plan, no foundation in legitimacy, and was being run by two guys who were soon to be homeless and hungry.
He even mentioned my commissioning "myth action figures" in order to generate interest and buzz in the project.
I am glad that you have taken a public stand against his actions, since they clearly do not fall under the well-considered guidelines of the server and it's members.

This news post-topic isn't intended to be a 'bash Renwood' discussion.
It's also pretty lame to bash someone in a place where you know that person can't respond. If your dangly-bits aren't so microscopic that you need the hubble telescope to see them, at least take your cheap shots where the person can respond.
btw, this remark isn't unique to Blade1's comment, his was just the the most recent.
oh but ooga can, and you can bet that when ren is attacked he will be there in a heartbeat to defend his brother in arms.
I also want to know who paid for it and how much was paid for this. Hell, I even demand to know. This sint democracy blah blah blah go ahead and just never tell me then, we dont need a long explanation for obvious things like this.
I hope whoever it was sues him for money back and that he's nailed for fraud! Then again, that might open the door for magma to get in trouble for letting him have these things in the first place, security breach, blah blah... so i doubt we'll hear much about it.
ps @ renwood (via ooga, you know you will): have fun with that money, i hope you enjoy the court dates!
