I need some help making what I think will be an awesome plugin some day and could realy use some help with making colour maps. And I don't mean instruction. I mean charity.

Incase your interested, what I'm looking for at first (and by "at first" I mean that this is the first map for my plugin, yes I hope there are more) is a mostly flat, grass dominated map, with a few fading paths in blocks for a town. All I need is a colour map, displacement map, shadow map, terrain map would be nice, and no media map is required as I would prefer this map to have little or no water present on it.

If you decide to take on this job for me then Thank You in advance.

Also If you decide to help you will be credited if you wish it.

Keep in mind that I am not a company I'm just a person with nothing better to do than make a plugin so I can't do any more than request help and hope someone is feeling kind that day.

Tell me if I broke any rules please since I don't do much on these forums I wouldn't know if this is in the wrong place or something.

I thought there were free colormaps/shadow maps/terrain maps and stuff like that on the udogs hotline.

I thought saint † knew their exact location, but he didn't want to tell me it \:\(

Going to need more info... can you do a basic sketch of the elements you want? Where and what units? I suggest finding a stock map pretty similar to what you want and modifying the hell out of it. Then you can get somebody (mb me) to add the cmap later for a perfect custom fit.

I spent a few hours on an outline, if its nowhere near what you wanted I will use it somewhere else (eventually). I need to find better textures and get on a dif computer (this weekend?).

I like to cmap and script (terrible with fear), so nothing will go wasted. I am terrible with storylines(units), and so have many maps in progress... Im by no means pro(yet), but you can use any of my maps but I will likely use them too(someday). Dont have many screens of them handy though.

I am on a Mac so it will have to be a 240 colour PICT file ( or I think that's what it is). and Fury this is almost perfect. Can you rotate it so the entrance to the map was from the north, that is where the light units will be, it would be great and maybe have the outlieing building have a bit of stone in front of it so I could put a platform there for the enemy "baron-like target to make his final stand. It would be perfect. Oh and maybe make the map a shade lighter so it looked like daytime and a little snow mixed in with the grass would be great, but it's not imperitive. And what's the giant white spot in the map?

P.S. I'm pretty good with fear and quite good at story but don't know any scripting. That's kind of funny

And where can I find buildings that will fit the spots you've made for them

Yea I can rotate it really easy.

I will need to put it into loathing to do the displacement map, overhead, etc. It would be easier to to upload a plugin, which you could extract the maps from at will. I could also upload the unindexed cmap and outlines which could be useful.

I will find better textures, was just going for outline. Does look dark, these seem more for a dark forest. The buildings are from willow creek, I was just using them for scale, can put the buildings anywhere.

Cydonians mapmaking tutorial at mything.org is a great overview, it basically what im doing.

Ok so when you are going to do a finished product just use square buildings. Also I think the texture are ok but it's fine if you change them. I'm not sure I get the stone outlineing the map, maybe you should knix that. Also Be sure in future that it is in a PICT file because I'm on a mac. As for buildings try to make them in a slightly more uniform arangment and if you can make the paths in town fainter then great.

1) you can easily convert bmp to pict in just about any graphics program. ex. graphic converter (shareware) or gimp (freeware)

2) you asked where to find buildings? you probably know tha the standard ones are all in loathing, but if you want to SEE the buildings without having to open them individually in loathing, there's an online gallery of the models (including buildings) at

Cydonian's tutorial is a good overall guide - but if you are ever looking for a really good guide to creating colormaps, Clem's Colormapping Walkthrough is REALLY good. I think it has a lot of useful details that Cyd's tutorial doesn't really get into.

I dont have photoshop, so I found clems tutorial nearly worthless. Cydonians tutorial is much better for me as it has a relativly quick reference to the important stuff.

I was suggesting the overview because it would be much better for someone who has no interest in making cmaps but wants to make a myth plugin.

Ive made about 20 meshes, I have a bit of an idea how to do it. Its all about how much effort you willing to put into it (barring skill).

i agreee cyds overview is the best place to start for someone not wanting to do colormaps, i misunderstood your intention in mentioning it.

yes, i can tell you've done colormaps before - the quality of your map wasn't that of a n00b. i thought if you hadn't seen the colormapping tutorial it might have some useful tips. as for being photoshop specific so useless, it IS photoshop specific but the basic ideas should be useful for any graphics editor with layers. if your comp is windows, i'd recommend gimp and photogimp (both are free). gimp is a photoshop like graphics editor, and photogimp is an addon that converts the gimp user interface into one that is identical to the photoshop interface. using gimp would give you the power of photoshop and photogimp on top of gimp would let you use any photoshop tutorials for colormapping or general non-myth graphics projects. but obviously you are getting decent results on whatever you are using so just my 2 cents.

Fury. I need to talk to you about the map. So if you get a chance, drop by myth so we can descuss it.

Also I wonder when you'll be able to get another upload of it. And if the snowy grass thing can't be done, then by all means, skip it and just make the grass a darker colour.

I can only think of one absolutely necessary change in the map. Rotate the stone platform so the stairs are facing north.

Also I was wondering if anyone knows if I am permitted to use the high def zerks from mazz, and if so could you tell me where to find them. I want these because my plugin has a lot to do with Zerks so I don't want to get anoyed with the non-high-defness of them.

If they aren't anywhere then would someone please extra and upload them to udogs. The reson I haven't done this is not for lack of trying I just can't seem to get everything that goes with the unit, and chaos doesn't work at all.

IronDuke made that high res zerk, send him an email and ask him. Otherwise idk. I find that particular zerks walking animation rather annoying (just my opinion).

When your game crashes, check your mythlog to find out what tags you are missing. It may be easier to extract the unit from frenzy (at tain) then mazz.

My chaos doesnt work either, you might try an older version in TZ uploads. You will lose some features but it might save some time.

Right so the next thing I need for this map to work is a pre-game collection. I don't expect Fury to do everything here so I'm asking the forum community to please step up and give me a hand since I haven't the know how or the programs to make such a thing as a pre-game collection.

If you dicide that you're willing to help than please reply and I can then tell what I'm looking for. In the mean time I'm going to work on adding everything required to make a map, a map, on Fury's work-of-art mesh.

if you are really talking about a pre-game collection - ala the solo Bungie maps with scrolling text and/or voiceover animation over one or more background images, try http://mything.org/index.php?a=article-read&o=0000000089

if you are just talking about the pre-game image that shows up in the game options screen when you are playing online,

"The Pregame picture must be 377 pixels wide by 190 pixels high. You can really put anything you want in here, but it should have the name of your map in it. Most also show a picture of the color map or overhead in the top right corner. The rest can be a larger version of the color map, a screenshot from your map, or a neat scan of a crayon drawing you made in the first grade. It doesn't matter. Follow convention at your own risk. What matters is the size 377 x 190, and it must also be a 256 color .BMP or PICT. Save it and go back to Fear.

Select "import bitmap : netmap preview", this time opening the path to your pregame image, and open the mesh tag again. Select this tag to replace 'no tag' in the "pregame" tag space. Click 'ok' to save."

Yes I've seen that tutorial a few time and I'd do it myself but as I've already said, I haven't the tools and, in my point of veiw, I lack the skill. So that means I'm still looking for someone who can make me a pregame. Just one thing is needed, and that's a backround image. So: if your interested please post a reply saying so, I'll give the details then.
