I recently installed myth on a new comp and am having trouble getting everything running smoothly. First, half the time I can't log into the server. I get this error message:

"Error: File system Open in .\Myth2Code\tag_files\tag_files.c, line #2527: couldn't open local tag file 'metaserver'.
Error: File system Open in .\CoreLibrary\tag_files\preferences.c, line #132: couldn't write metaserver preferences"

Second, during games myth will completely lock up and require a force quit (no info in crash log on this).

I posted on magma as well, but has anyone else had issues like this? How did you fix them?

Comp info: win 7 ultimate 64 bit, 2gb ati radeon 5970, i7 920 @ 3.2ghz, 6 gb 1333mhz

Check the file & folder permissions for the files and folders in your Myt II install.


The first issue appears to simply be a lack of permissions.
Unable to find "metaserver" indicates this because by default, if Myth cannot find that file, it auto-creates a default copy.
The second message backs this up.


The second issue could well very easily be a result of the same thing.

That sounds right, getting a message asking "Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?" everytime I open 1.7.1 myth.

I have "full control" selected under the security options on the file so I'm not quite sure how to make that stop.

Perhaps try modifying the shortcut to Run as Administrator.

Or, just ALWAYS answer Yes to that prompt.
