So I've started with Ares scripting tutorial for n00bs like me. He suggest I start with a map that has units and stuff on it already. He himself uses willow so I'm doing that to. I've already imported colormap, shadowmap, terrainmap and the others. Now I'm adding units with the warrior tool. But when I put another unit in the list by double klicking on it, and I try to add it on the map, it's just adding the first unit, so I can only put 1 type of unit on the map. What am I doing wrong?

(yes I know; it's probably the most n00bish question ever)

When you double click on that tool, you can add other unit types you want to use on that mesh. If you just single click, you can add units of those types into the map. There is a little drop down menu which has a unit selected. Use the arrow keys to select the unit you want to place on the mesh. Then just click on the mesh to start adding them.

Heh, I feel so stupid. The box with the menu hid behind my mesh: screen.

Thanks! \:\)

New question: Ares suggests I 'Save my map and go try it out'. So I saved it, and copied it from my local (/meshes) folder to my plugins folder. But it doesn't show up. Am I doing something wrong?

You don't need to copy anything to your plugins folder - when you start Myth it will look FIRST in your local folder so if you've made any changes you'll see them when you play whatever map you edited. No one ELSE will be able to see your changes or join a game you host with that map because their local folder is different.

When you are DONE with your map you can turn your changes into a plugin in Fear (File>Build - or something like that). That will build your plugin in your plugins folder and you can share the plugin with other players. (then you can save/rename your local folder so it won't interfere with your networked games)

note: Make sure to give your plugin a meaningful name so people know what it is and ALWAYS include the version# in the filename. No one ever INTENDS to have more than one version but once you let other people try it out there'll always be something to fix, requiring a v1.01, 1.02, etc. It will just make life simpler if you include a version# in the plugin name.

i actually read through the ares tutorial like 6 times before i understood what he was telling me to do \:\)

anyways keep trying, mess around and stuff. you can use a map like the library as a base point for how to script stuff

The Ares scripting tutorial assumes you already know the basics of mapmaking, and IS outdated, but it's the only really detailed step-by-step guide to scripting from scratch that I am aware of. There are some good guides on scripting specific kinds of actions, but for a general walkthrough Ares' guide is the only one.

Some others script guides/walkthroughs/tips etc you might find of use.

Also, don't forget the 'workshop' page on mything.org - there's a link to it on every page and it has some canned searches and links to mapmaking resources that I think are pretty useful.

http://mything.org/index.php?a=article-read&o=02068

I think for current mapmaking questions, both the magma forums and the IX's forums have readers who are actively making maps.

Am I missing the 'puss ghôl' in the units list, or should I make normal ghôls pick up puss packets to get ghôls with puss?

Ghols by default can pick up small projectiles which includes puss packets.

yes, their is no ghol with (ammo) in units list, you must either make one with pus ammo, or make one pick it up.

If you were to look at most solo levels that use pus ghols, I believe that this is what you would see... Regular ghols whose first scripted action is to pick up some nearby pus.
