Please point this noobie in the right direction. I couldn't find a place to download the mariusnet plugin or what have you. I did locate a link to the 1.3 patch here on the forums, however, under the "Play Online" menu we only have the defunct PlayMyth.net as an option.

The game crashed on me and as a result I'm still logged into Marius net and can't connect "User already in use". Will it eventually kick me from the server so I can log back in?

I'm sure that you've already discovered this, but yes, it will remove you from the player list after a timeout period.

I figured this thread would be the best one to ask this question in:

When I try to connect to myth three multiplayer it says

"The network server does not seem to be responding at this time. Check your network connection and try again."

The problem is that my connection is fine \:\(

have you upgraded to the most recent version of Myth 3, and installed the Mnet patch? (the most recent version of M3 is @ http://thetain.totalcodex.net)

See also http://www.mariusnet.com/ubbthreads.php/ubb/faq#myth_m3

if you've done all that and still can't connect, please post again.

Note to Self: I really need to get around to creating an actual M3 Mariusnet Patch - one that changes the server logo so that people aren't confused by it still saying PlayMyth or whatever else there was.

Welcome back Sardonac, there aren't all that many ppl playing M3 these days, but there's a handful - at least playing solo. Can't recall if I've seen any multi M3 or not - post something with an M3-eye-catching subject and you'll probably get some response.

It'd be kinda nice to get a few people playing some multiplayer games so that I'd at least have some data to work with to get M3 rankings working.

Me and Ravengard are both fairly active w/M3 online games so contact us as to times and so on. We usually play early evening Fridays but also during the week. That's sao paulo/chicago time zones.

Too bad when online, an M2 player cannot see that there are M3 games going on.

I'm having this exact same problem.

I'm running version "1.3.1 http://www.flyflip.com".

I've put in the MariusNet "Metaserver" file into the preferences folder, but when attempting to then join I get "The network server does not seem to be responding at this time. Check your network connection and try again."

I've tried my logon name/password for my account here on the forum, and also "guest" and any old password. Nothing works?

Am I missing something obvious?

Someone mentioned mnet or something?

It has been a little while since I've done this, but I believe that you need to delete the Prefs folder completely... then fire up M3 and try to connect to the server. It will fail, but doing so will recreate a clean Prefs folder. Quit M3.

AFTER that, copy the Mariusnet Metaserver file into place, copying it over top the newly recreated Prefs folder.

Then you should restart M3 and be able to log in with your forums username & password.

This is a different, but related question - I want to play Myth III games, but I'm behind a router. I have been disconnecting and going straight online when I host. It works, but it's a pain. Does anyone know the correct Port config for Myth III? I found somewhere that the port number is 3453, but that may be old and for M1. Not sure if it matters that I'm hosting from a Mac, via Airport Extreme...

I can't be certain (off the top of my head) about port 3453, but being that that port is what you need for M1 & M2 anyway, go ahead and forward it.

I'd be willing to bet that it is the same for M3, however, because absolutely none of the other ports changed.

OK... But I don't see how that is any different to what I've done really.

I installed the game over the weekend, and played a bit of single player. So it had already created the preferences folder when I came to put in the replacement Metaserver file last night.

I'll do what you suggest though and see what happens.

And the username/password IS the same username and password as I use to get into this forum (eg: NeilF)?

ps: I already have port 3453 (TCP&UDP) forwarded on my router too!

Port forwarding is only required for hosting, not joining the server... so you can ignore that for now.

How is it different? I don't know. I don't know precisely what you did or the order you did it; I was simply stating what I recall to have worked for me when I first created the Metaserver file.

Yes, the username & password will be identical to what you use here on the forums.

Well, I don't know what voodoo was involved, but that does indeed work. Thanks!

I'd suggest your (additional) instructions are added to the FAQ, which I followed and failed with...

That's good to hear.

One way that it may have differed is if you copied the Mariusnet Metaserver file into place before you ever tried to connect even once.

In that scenario, I'm pretty certain that the game will "know" that it has never tried to connect before, and it will still create a new Metaserver file, overwriting the Mariusnet one in the process.

I'll update the FAQ later today.

I still have Problems connecting to Mariusnet. I bought a German Version of Myth 3 but i had the Option to Install the game in English. I patched the game to 1.3.1 from Flyingflip.com. installed the Metaserver file in the pref folder. i opened the ports. But Im still not able to connect to Mariusnet. Maybe its my Username. Its Hypatia the The Y on the German Keyboard is a Z on the English one. So i have to press Z if i want to type a Y in game. Im using Windows 7. I have a FirtzBox. and i have Windows Firewall enabled. I tried connecting with a deactivated Windows Firewall but it still didnt work.

Apparently you can't just install the metaserver file, you need to delete your old preferences before you install the metaserver file - the following steps worked for another player with the same problem.

1) Delete your Myth 3 Prefs/preferences folder completely

2) Start up M3 and try to connect to the server. It will fail, but doing so will recreate a clean Prefs folder. Quit M3.

AFTER that,

3) Copy the Mariusnet Metaserver file into place, copying it over top the newly recreated Prefs folder.

4) Restart M3 and you should be able to log in with your forums username & password.

ps. In the future, please use the 'crop' tool in your graphics program so the images you post contain only what you need to show - when you are just posting a dialogue box there is no need to post a 1212x1212 pixel image - especially when you could just say 'When I try to login, I get a message that says "The network server does not seem to be responding at this time. Check your network connection and try again."

Its actually an issue with your metaserver. The playmyth server did not have this issue... It also was likely an intentional decision, to whatever end.

On an unrelated note, anyone up for m3 later tonight?

I created a topic about this on Project Magma since I think that would be a great idea and encourage more M3 play.

http://tain.totalcodex.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5226&p=50873#p50873

I'd also like to hear input from PPE and OM on the degree of coding changes that would be needed M.Net server side to make this happen.

If all of that doesn't work (it didn't for me. Myth 3 refused to create a new preferences folder) then try just placing the Metaserver file in the existing preferences folder and then pasting and replacing that file with the same Metaserver file. It sounds weird and redundant, but it worked for me.

Hopefully that made sense.

Well I have to say that I can't believe people are still playing Myth! That is amazing. I just got M3 all loaded up, and I followed all the instructions for getting online and it worked! Course, I was the only one online, but hey, still awesome.

Just need to get my hands on Myth TFL and Myth 2 as well.

Yeah, I've found a couple of copies on ebay. I am hoping to find my old discs somewhere. I am having fun with Myth 3 at the moment. I never did get around to playing it back in the day.

Truth be told, I never finished Myth 2.

Once you have M2 installed, be sure to get the latest (free) updates from ProjectMagma.

Also, unless you are a purist or just looking to collect all the versions of myth, you don't really need Myth TFL to play Myth TFL anymore. Magma created a plugin called 'The Fallen Levels' that in combination with a 'vtfl' Myth TFL emulation feature in Myth 2 allows you to play the Myth 1 solo campaign with Myth 1 units/physics/maps/etc. You can also play the standard bungie multiplayer TFL maps.

Well, I have M2 installed along with the TFL plugin including cutscenes. Figured I should start at the beginning and work my way forward. Something to keep me busy! I will come back to M3 when I have finished the other 2, or if people are playing online.

Anyone know the status of the patch download server? I'm trying to d/l the Mariusnet Myth III Metaserver file so I can play some M3 during my time off this week. But when I click the download button, the connection times out before the download even begins. Tried a couple of different browsers and computers to no avail. All other Internet connectivity seems fine for me. Would be great to get connected and play some M3 like the good old days!

I tried to download it right now as a test and same thing happened to me. So I made one of my own which you can download here.

Extract the "Metaserver" file and place it in your "preferences" folder. Then load up Myth 3 and use your existing account username and password to get on. For users without an account reading this, they can make one or use the "guest" account with anything for the password.

Not really a time zone thing, not entirely anyway, it's just there aren't many people playing myth 3.

I don't think I ever saw more than 10 M3 players on at once, and that was when we were pre-arranging times. (this was years ago now).

Let me know when you want to play and I'll try and be online. I'm in the UK so it'll need to be UK late evening time.
