im getting into mapmaking for Myth and i want to know, is it possible to import a 3D model to use as a collection reference or do i have to export indivindual bitmaps?
You mean make a collection, not a collection reference. A collection refrence just tells the collection what colors to use. The collection is a group of images of the unit/object. You require a 3D modeling program in which you will make some images. Use a program like Photoshop to index them in 8 bit BMP format. Use a collection editor to make the actual collection tag. For a long time Amber was the only useful collection editor. Amber is a classic Mac program, so it can't run in Mac OSX nor Windows. (Unless you get a Mac emulator.) Tahoe can edit certain things in collections but is very limited. It is a windows program. Currently project magma is working on a new myth tool called Oak. One of its functions is to edit collections like Amber did with a few more features. There is a Mac and a Windows version. It will probably come out when the 1.7 update is done or at least some form of public beta. Do a search in the magma forums and perhaps the mythgraveyard to find more info on collection making.
hmm, alrighty thnx for the clarification. i have a 3D modeling program but it can only make BMP screenshots, guess ill just get Photoshop to over-come that.
There are other programs like Photoshop if you prefer, I hear Gimp is good and free. An 8 bit BMP is still a BMP just to make sure you understand. An 8-bit BMP has a maximum of 256 different colors in it. Microsoft Paint can save in that format but it doesn't do it well, so the images would look messed up. While a program that deals with editting images can index it a lot better.
So you want to make sure all the images are in 24bit BMP first so they have their max quality, then when you have them all index them using the same color table so they are all using the same 256 colors. Sounds complex, but a program like Photoshop can do it easily.
