Quick question:

What are the ideal system specs for running this game? I have tried to d/l the demo numerous times and have not been able to play it whatsoever. I had an AMD 1.6ghz laptop, no video card tho.

I'd love to try the game out, even tho no one really plays it \:\(

Thanks!

The original specs as stated by Mumbo Jumbo were:

System Requirements

Minimum
OpenGL compatible Rage Pro, Voodoo 2, TNT (or equivalent)with 6 MB of memory
hardware acceleration card for the minimum game performance
400 Mhz CPU
64 Megs of ram

Recommended
OpenGL compatible Voodoo3, Rage 128, TNT2 Ultra, GeForce, S200 with 16 MB of memory
600 Mhz CPU
128 Megs of ram
(System requirements subject to change).

Those are some VERY modest specs today. Even with just a lowly $30 modern video card in your current system, you should be just fine.

Also, the last patch released by FlyingFlip seemed to fix a LOT of compatibility & stability issues.

Yes very stable as compared to the original release, which was very crappy. The FF patch makes M3 for a great fun Myth game in the Myth series.

And, thank-you plataypus for providing an online place to hang out with it.

: )

It improved the graphics too, that patch. Did that increase requirements? I don't recall hearing so, but I'm not sure offhand.

even if it did... I doubt it increased the specs all that much.

We're talking about 16MB of video memory here... and that is the HIGH END spec. The average bottom-of-the-barrel $35 card out there right now has at least 8 times that much memory and probably 10 times the computational power as a TNT2 Ultra.

The specs should be the last thing anyone should have to worry about.

Well I have to say my G4/933Mhz Mac with a 128MB Radeon 9800 Pro has always struggled a bit with Myth 3, especially when you get a few wights popping at the same time!

It's an old machine (7 years), and an old graphics card though.

What I do find is that turning off some of the fancier graphics features like moving grass and flowing blood is a big help, as is keeping the model detail on the lower side.

It *is* playable though, as it ought to be given that the game came out before my computer was built! I've often thought that M3 was built for machines about 10 years in the future, and that was one of the reasons it did so badly when it came out (and there were lots of reasons).

Ping me if you're looking for an online game sometime.

i just recently upgraded my antique (B&W G3 Mac) computer and can FINALLY play Myth III! Took bit of finagling to find the files and get everything working (I had a Windows M3 CD), but I am suprised your 933Mhz G4 is struggling with it, I have the model texture set to medium and turned off the blades of grass detail and flowing blood, but I haven't had any trouble on this ancient 1Ghz G3 with a 128MB Radeon 9200 it slows down a bit when theres lots of particles/projectiles on the screen but otherwise runs around 30fps and that's some crazy high rez - I assume it would run better if I ran it a normal rez.

after hearing all the negative reviews of M3, I've been pleasantly suprised. It _feels_ a little different and the selecting units isn't as easy as on M1 or M2, but it is definitely fun. I am going thru the solo levels now (on timid because I am a n00b).

have yet to play any M3 multiplayer, or try out any of the 3rd party maps.

we need an M3 gamenight.
