Simple question: How do you change them? Also, even though Myth 2 has a resolution list in preferences there is still no way to change the refresh rate to my native refresh so I got the screen surrounded by black bars just like Myth1.
A few of my other games which do not have these options also simply have a command that you would add to the shortcut for a custom resolution and refresh rate. No amount of googleing has revealed these launch options for either of the myths.

I don't understand the problem, even when you select an resolution like 640x480 your 20 inch screen will be filled without black sides, i think you klicked 'windowed' somewhere in the preferences screen. Also try to hold down the alt (or option on mac, lol whiich key is that) so you get a little screen in which you can select 'switch resolutions (use that one for instance)' 'window mode (turn that off)' 'don't play cutscenes' and 'don't show this dialog on startup (don't check this one)'. Then press ok and have fun!

Killerking.

I know it's confusing there are 2 windowed options, turn them both off!

Tell me exactly how to change the Resolution to 1152x864 and the refresh rate to 95Hz that is all I really care about for Myth1 and 2. There is no "Windowed" option in preferences anywhere and in fact the only option even related to video there is choosing the rendering engine. I am jamming the alt key on starting the game and in preferences and nothing happens in Myth TFL 1.5 The black bars are not from windowed mode they are from having the wrong refresh rate and resolution on my CRT monitor.

Very, very odd. Please forgive me, I'll look at it later when i have more time. You may also want to ask it on projectmagma.net techincal support forums. By the way, are you running on myth 1.6 or 1.5.1?

Do it like this (made with myth soulblighter version 1.6):

You speak against yourself. As answer: because I (and you) was talking about myth 2 soulblighter version 1.6, you should check the switch resolution instead of window mode.

The pictures may take some time to load, but i hope you can see it. Killerking.

I am primarily complaining about Myth 1 as you see below with the latest version(1.5) and complete lack of resolution and refresh rate selection.

Myth2(v1.6) on the other hand I only have a problem with their being no refresh rate.

Also I am using WINDOWS not Mac!

it's very simple, the max FPS= maximum frames per second. When it's not on, it goes as high as it needs. I thought there was some way to see the number of fps in-game, but i forgot how to do that. And I'm sorry to tell you, but there are multiple TFL updates, that are all different from eachother. Try to install 1.4 to if you can find it, but for the rest i can't help you, i have no experience with TFL except for it's unpatched demo i played long ago, and the plugins with which you CAN play thefallenlords WITH myth 2. Use those, it will solve the problem.

TFL just uses the resolution you have your desktop set to. The pregame remains at 640x480 in the middle of the screen but in-game should be ok.

I give up. FPS is not the refresh rate so the max FPS setting does not work. The monitor will always show 60HZ no matter what. I have confirmed that TFL uses my desktop rez but neither games use your desktop refresh rate apparently defaulting to 60Hz. Can anyone here confirm that both games default to 60Hz?

No, the screen you get at startup tells me I have 0Hz :P. I never needed a refresh rate except for turning on my max fps when i got laggy, but in single player everything was perfectly fine. You don't need a refresh rate and for the resolution, just go play myth ii. I don't see the problem.

stuff you might already know, but since you keep referring to FPS and refresh rate kind of interchangeably:

On a CRT monitor(or TV) the refresh rate is how fast the monitor refreshes (redraws) all the leetle pixels on your screen, the faster the rate the less 'flicker' your eyes notice. (this isn't different frames of an animation or game, this is whatever is on your screen. if the image on your screen is not changing the monitor still redraws the entire screen at the refresh rate). The refresh rate flicker is more noticeable on screens with very high resolution, compounded perhaps with very large monitors(?) - the higher the resolution, the faster your refresh rate needs to be before you start getting annoyed/bothered by slow refresh rate.

fps is how many frames (screens) images a computer program/graphics board is pumping out every second.

Putting them together, even if you have a graphics card capable of pumping out the fastest FPS in the world it isn't going to look good if your refresh rate is so slow that your monitor is flickering. regardless of how fast your graphics card can pump out the frames it's not going to look good if your refresh rate is too slow.

Hmm, that would just mean he needs a new screen to get a higher refresh rate? And, if you don't have enough FPS your screen will flicker, while it might be a good screen with an good refresh rate.

Right? killerking.

Flat screens (afaik) have fixed refresh rates, but old-style monitors (CRTs) generally have multiple refresh rates. At least when used on a mac you can choose the resolution and refresh rate somewhat independently. (there is some correlation between resolution and refresh rate but it's not 1-1 it's 1-many)

If your graphics card can't churn out the video from a game fast enough, you will see lag and other pixelly weirdness no matter how fast your refresh rate is. A fast refresh rate will redraw whatever is on your screen very quickly, but the monitor can only draw something new when it gets new images from the graphics card - so until it gets new images it will just keep redrawing whatever is on the screen.

Yes I have a CRT that has a max refresh rate of 95Hz at this resolution. So I try to force everything to render at 95Hz. If this were a flat panel LCD at 60Hz then it wouldn't matter since there would be no eye strain.
