ok, so I am a n00b. I can't get TFL v 1.5.x to run on my machine (PPC OS 10.2.8).

I did a large install of Myth TFL from an original legally purchased Myth TFL install disk (to a new empty folder).

I downloaded and unzipped the latest Myth TFL version from the Tain.

I followed the README instructions and manually copied the Myth TFL 1.5 executable to the TFL folder.

I renamed the TFL folder Local folder to local->save

I copied the unzipped 1.5 upgrade folder 'tags->Local' folder to the TFL folder.

I renamed the TFL folder 'tags->local' folder to 'Local'.

When I double-click the Myth TFL 1.5 icon, I get a black screen than after a few seconds I get a generic OS X message about the application ending unexpectedly. There is no log file in my Myth TFL directory.

I have gone through this scenerio at least 3 times, each time following the README instructions to the letter (the list above is from memory) and I get the same results.

Also, I can still run the original Myth TFL executable from the updated install folder, but of course I don't have the OpenGL or screen resolution or other cool options.

help?

Hmm. I've not encountered this before. Try this: On the TFL disk is a complete TFL folder (with all the tags, the app, etc.). Instead of doing an install, just copy this folder over to your drive, then do the 1.5 update procedure.

heh. Did that too DA. At least twice. I just didn't mention it because I thought it made me look even more clueless.

I imagine you've tried re-dling the patch?

Also, how healthy is that disk looking?

Yes, I dl'ed the patch from thetain at least twice last night. Each attempt to update original Myth to 1.5 was done with a clean install and a fresh download of the 1.5 update zip.

The CD looks pretty healthy, it's been sitting in the cardboard sleeve in the box it came in as part of the Mac 10 pack (or whatever that Mac game collection was called - Ah! I think it was called '10 tons of fun' (http://www.listal.com/game/10-tons-fun-pack-macintosh)) . In theory it should be in great shape because I never used that CD back when I needed to have a disk installed to play. Of course that DOES bring into question whether the CD was ever good, but I would _think_ the fact that I can run the original Myth TFL executable fine would indicate that the large install worked successfully?

I'll check when I get home and see if I can locate any of the other Myth TFL install CDs I have and if so I'll try another clean install from one of them. I should have at least 2 more in drawers somewhere.

one minor correction. when I said that the original TFL install ran fine, I was kind of glossing over the part where when I double click the Myth The Fallen Lords icon it runs in classic mode and does weird black screen, white screen, black screen looks like it's stuck click around and then the main screen pops up. I meant I can run Myth TFL and play it ok - not that it was a primo glitch free experience.

Try just dragging the "Myth The Fallen Lords f" folder to your Applications folder. Then copy the "tags" folder into the "Myth The Fallen Lords" folder. Then complete the instructions in the 1.5 readme.

I don't have classic mode (OS X 10.5.1 Intel Mac) and that worked perfect for me.
