Aleph One 1.0 Released

We're proud (and relieved) to announce the 1.0 release of Aleph One. Nearly 12 years since Bungie released the source code for Marathon 2, it's finally feature-complete with the original engine and polished enough to deserve the 1.0 label. New features include full Marathon 2 and Infinity film support, including drag-and-drop; numerous improvements to the interface; OpenGL (Shader) fixes; new Lua features, and of course, bug fixes.

Accompanying this release we have a new set of data files for each of the games. Marathon has been completely updated to make it as true to the original as possible in the engine in its current state, removing M1A1's weird opening, extra secret levels, and changes to puzzles; and emulating the behavior of Marathon's triggered battles are closely as we can in Aleph One. Marathon 2 includes the full HD graphics upgrades featured in the Xbox LIVE Arcade game Marathon: Durandal, which Bungie and Freeverse have generously allowed us to distribute. Marathon Infinity includes goran's HD wall textures and landscapes, and the XBLA weapons graphics.

Each of the the three games also comes with its own theme, a widescreen HUD, and a new icon. We've changed the way they're distributed, too: they're now available as all-in-one apps for the Mac, and all-in-one zip files for Windows. Just download, unzip/mount, and double click.

http://marathon.sourceforge.net/ is up to date and should help you get the files you need. If you want to read detailed release notes for the 1.0 release, they are available at http://marathon.sourceforge.net/release-notes/20111201.html

Our thanks go out to everyone who has helped Aleph One and the Marathon trilogy get to this point!

11/02/11 09:41 AM There's an app for that... by MNA_Om

Ever find yourself far from a computer but wondering who is on mariusnet? Well, now there's an app for that!

Thanks to Spongefile's new app you can see now see who's online, and what games are being played on mariusnet, all from the ease of your iOS device (iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch).

Check it out and download it for free from Apple's app store.

Here's what the games viewer screen looks like:

Well done, Spongefile!

ps. a couple of notes from the app's creator:

Note:
1. If the games screen is blank, that's because there are no games running. Go start some.
2. If you don't have an internet connection, this app won't work, for reasons that should be obvious.

10/16/11 11:26 PM Myth II version 1.7.2 released for Linux by MNA_Om

[from the projectmagma website]

Project Magma is proud to announce the release of Myth II 1.7.2 for Linux.

No longer will Linux players have to resort to using Wine or booting into Windows to take advantage of the latest improvements to Myth II or to play online with other players. Instead, they can now enjoy the same native Myth II experience alongside existing Windows and Mac players of the game.

The Linux release of Myth II 1.7.2 is fully compatible with Myth II 1.7.2 on other platforms, allowing it to run the latest plugins available on The Tain and to play online on Mariusnet.

Download the Myth II 1.7.2 Linux Installer or the Linux Demo today. The Myth II 1.7.2 Linux installer can be used to upgrade an existing Myth II installation or to install the updated version directly using an original Myth II CD.

Going forward, we expect future updates to the game to be released on all three platforms simultaneously.

08/16/11 10:56 AM News, anniversaries, departures by MNA_Om

Happy Birthday Mariusnet!

Mariusnet reached a milestone this past weekend, it was 10 years ago that mariusnet first went live.

Myth World Cup 2011 News (from the official site)

 Quote:
Bulls are the MWC2011 champion after defeating the House of Blard in the finals 6-1 in games. Congrats to the champions!

Get the films, or grab some popcorn and just sit back and watch the post-tournament drama at the mwc11 site

And lastly, a retirement notice.
(First off, please note, the tain and udogs hotline server are NOT being shut down)

Over on the projectmagma forums 'WazzaMouse' announced his retirement from Myth and the community. "So what do I care, I never even heard of the guy?" you ask? Well, Wazzamouse has been active behind the scenes helping keep the myth community going for many years. He is the person who paid for the Udogs Hotline Server and Totalcodex.net for years (some years contributions helped), wrote the bug tracking system used by Magma, created the windows vista sidebar widget that lets you see who is on mariusnet, fixed the MWC tournament code so there could be a 2010 MWC, etc. etc. Thanks for all your hard work Wazza!
